As Payroll Advisor you will be responsible for complex case management and any cases that cannot be resolved from members of the First Line Support Team. You will work within a team providing legally compliant advice and payroll assistance to clients by telephone to support the needs of the individual client and to highlight any options that are non-compliant as well as ensuring the client is fully aware of the risk these options present. Key Duties/Tasks: * Provide advice and guidance on payroll policies, procedures, and regulations via telephone and case management. You always prioritise picking up the phone to customers and follow up any complex cases with actions after the event. * Keep yourself up to date with changes in payroll legislation and best practices. * To log all advice accurately on the internal Customer Relationship Management system, taking ownership of ongoing cases and their closure, within SLA. * To provide clients with supporting information and documentation that will assist them in the advice provided. * To present training and proactively supporting customers in how to get the best out of the company's Payroll technology. * To actively own cases to resolution, building rapport and relationships with clients on each interaction. * Make recommendations for corrective action options such as supplementary runs and re-run options in line with BACs turnaround times and advise customers on any associated charges. * Assist clients with payroll audits, reviews, and compliance checks. * Record and raise any software issues through to the appropriate development teams, ensuring full details are recorded so that appropriate action for fix can be taken forward. What you bring to the team: * A customer focussed and can-do approach to resolve all customer issues in a timely manner. Keeping the customer informed of progress of their case through to resolution. * Deep understanding of UK payroll legislation and tax regulations. * An understanding of each individual clients Payroll landscape, including Third Party Payments schedule and reporting requirements. * Previous experience in either delivering or managing payroll services, ideally within a Bureau environment. Portfolio Payroll are working with a well-established public sector business service who is looking for a hands-on Senior Payroll Assistant to join their growing finance team on a part-time 21 hour a week basis. As a senior Payroll Assistant, you will be responsible to manage and deliver all aspects of a monthly payroll for the current staff, a pension payroll for the retired staff plus quarterly and annual payroll runs. The successful applicant will be responsible for: * All aspects of staff payroll * Timely and accurate reporting and payment to HMRC of PAYE, NICs and other levies, downloading tax code notifications and all other reporting (P60s, P45s, etc * Maintain accurate and up-to-date company car details within the payroll system for reporting to HMRC and car benefit in kind calculations * Administer the staff childcare voucher scheme including reporting to HMRC. * Provide salary cost analysis reports as and when required and implement any changes to salary scales. * Responsible for payroll software upgrades and make sure that the Senior Accounts Administrators who provide payroll cover are trained on any changes. * Supervise all work on payroll carried out by the Senior Accounts Administrators who provide cover identifying any training or development needs and carrying out or arranging that training. * Ensure that the Union is up-to-date and compliant with all payroll related legislative changes. * Responsible for pensioner payroll and staff pension scheme administration * Responsible for all aspects of the payrolls for the Union's non-employed office holders (President, National Executive Council, Regional Councils and Branch Officials). * Assist with the day-to-day functions of the Accounts Section as and when required. * Monitor and reconcile the Pension fund bank account. * Prepare PSA settlement agreement, collating the relevant data needed to perform calculations on taxable benefits.
